That's the truth

Hello everyone

Today I'm going to write about my favorite subject.
I have to confess that my favorite subject is English, I like since I was at school, I always got good grades. In my first year at the university I really wanted to take this class, but I was allowed just from the second year. So I waited, when I finally  could take english,  I decided that I didn't want to skip any level, because I did not want to wait longer.
Now I'm in third year, the classes are more spontaneous and obviously more difficult, but I do not care, I love the idea of learning a language different from mine, and I love the idea of traveling to other countries and be able to communicate with people without difficulty.
This year the biggest challenge  has been writing this blog, because I think is easier to me speak English than write it. That is why I try so hard to not make a lot of mistakes.

Ok guys, that is all for today, see you soon

My favourite artist ?

Today I have to write about my favorite artist and I just can't choose one, so I'm going to talk about one of the greatest artist of art History.

Johannes Vermeer Van Delft

Vermeer was one of the most  talented painters Dutch baroque art,  who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle class life.

About his life He was born in 1632, His father was a silk worker with a taste for buying and selling art. In 1653 he married to Caterina Bolnes, who gave him eleven children  (can you believe it?). The need to support a big family prevented him enjoy sufficient economic relief.

Vermeer himself was also active in the art trade. He lived and worked in Delft all his life unlike most of the painters who traveled to many different places to increase their knowledge about art and also find new influences.

Vermeer wasn't a famous painter in his time,  but nowadays he is considered the great figure of Dutch seventeenth century after Rembrandt.

I really love the way Vermeer represented different scenes in his paintings.

His most famous painting is title "The girl with the pearl earring"

This painting inspired even a movie with the same name, directed by Peter Webber and starring by talented Scarlett Johansson. I'm sure Vermeer never imagined his paintings would become so famous someday.

Vermeer was called the painter of light, Here I add some of my favorite paintings, tell me, what do you think?

Theory of beauty

Hi guys!

Sometime ago I watched a very interesting video called Darwinian theory of beauty by Denis Duton. The theory talks about why we consider something beautiful. Denis begins by denying that the reason is the culture to which we belong, in other words, he doesn't believe that our culture is responsible for deciding whether something is beautiful or not. According to the theory the origin of our taste for beauty comes from  a million years ago, in the age of the first humans (like Flintstones,  It’s a kidding ). So according to Darwin's theory, human evolution is responsible for our trends for beauty. Our ancestors expressed their feelings in objects when there didn't have  a language, that is amazing, can you believe it?. After watching the video I kept thinking and I really think that is an interesting theory, I mean, why not?, anything is possible, and since our genetics is what determines most of our physical and intellectual qualities, is quite credible.
Well that's my opinion, if you want to know more about the subject, you should watch the video, it is very didactic and entertaining, you can also write your comment.

Until the next post,

See you

Who is she?

That little girl in the picture it’s me.
I don't remember who took this picture and I really don’t care. This picture was taken in some place in the south of Chile, during the summer holidays; I remember I was with all my family walking in there.... I can not remember how old I was, so I don't remember what year it was taken the photograph, however it is obvious that was a long time ago lol.  I chose this picture because represent a big step to me. If you look carefully you may notice that the little girl in the picture looks very shy.

And indeed she was, I used to be very shy and shameful, but that day my curiosity went further. I really wanted to get on that boat and while the rest of my family ignored me I approached the owner and asked if I could get on. Yes, I know is not a big deal, but for someone as shy as that girl was a first step… Today I'm so different than the little girl in the picture is incredible how much you can change, but that's life, we learn and overcome us, otherwise nothing would make sense.

Never Let Me Go

Hi !
In this oportunity, Im going to talk about Movies!.
I have to say it, I'm a movie lover.I've spent all my life watching movies, so I can’t choose just one like my favorite. However today I'm going to write about a very special movie to me.

Never Let Me Go is a British film based on the 2005 novel, Never Let Me Go, written by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film was directed by Mark Romanek and Alex Garland wrote the screenplay. It stars Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield.
The film centers on Kathy, Ruth and Tommy, played respectively by Mulligan, Knightley and Garfield.
They are three children Kathy, Tommy and Ruth, they spend their childhood at Hailsham, an English school. When they leave the school the terrible truth of their life is revealed to them and they must face it at the same time they face their deepest feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to tear them apart.. The story develops in a different England, in which human beings are cloned to provide organs for transplants. Kathy and her classmates have been created to be donors, but Kathy, has already become an adult, is working temporarily as a "caregiver," someone who supports and convince donors that makes them give up their bodies and eventually undergoing death.
I love this film for the drama in it, and I’m not sure why but I feel identified with this movie, maybe it's just for the music, which by the way is amazing.

Totally an expert

Hi guys

As you know, I'm a student of art history, so today I’m going to
write about a very important character in art world.

                                 Giorgio Vasari

He was an Italian painter and architect, but he was also a very important writer and historian. He wrote "Lives of the most eminent painters, sculptors and architects", for that reason he is considered the ideological foundation of art history writing.

Vasari was born in Arezzo, Tuscany.
At an early age he became a pupil of Guglielmo da Marsiglia, a skillful painter of stained glass. He went to Florence at the age of sixteen; he joined the circle of Andrea del Sarto where his humanist education was encouraged.  Vasari was friend of Michelangelo whose painting style would influence his own.
Often called "the first art historian" because he invented the genre of the encyclopedia of artistic biographies.
In my first year at university I had to read a lot about Vasari, because he was the first Historian, and some day, when I finish my career I will write about the same things that he wrote so many years ago. He is an inspiration to me.
